This team have had to endure some extreme weather conditions for their championship matches from torrential downpours in their first match to a balmy 19 degrees for their semi final !
We knew we had a tough match on our hands against Feakle Kilanena so we made a few changes to the team structure that certainly paid off. Sophie O’Doherty embraced her role in wing forward with 2 goals and 2 points and assists in many other scores . The forward line worked so well together with lovely touches and a never give up attitude with goals from Caragh Hayes , Lucy Tobin and some lovely deliveries from Emma Fitz and Caoilinn Earley .
Ailbhe , Meia and Evie linked up so well in mid field and worked tirelessly throughout resulting in some beautiful scores . Evie broke away from her marker and struck a perfect ball that drifted over the keepers head from the 45 line , a great goal ! Meia was on fire too , even an injury to her hand couldn’t stop her , she won so much ball and put 1 goal and 2 points on the score board for us .
Our defenders were put under immense pressure in the second half as Feakle - Kilanena brought on fresh players and certainly upped their game . Emily, Diane and Muireann dug deep on the centre back line . Emily’s blocks and Diane’s interceptions were crucial in the last ten minutes. Full credit has to be given to Martha , Cara and Lucy Lohan on the full back line with incredible clearances and composure to stop a Feakle comeback . Aisling our super sub stepped into every role asked of her and put in a huge effort .
A special mention has to go to Abbie O Gorman who put in an incredible performance in goals . Between her quick reactions, courageous dives across the goal and targeted puck outs she drove us on to ensure we booked our place in the final .
Final score Cratloe 6-04 to 4-08 Feakle K .
